Thank you so much for signing up to be a Block Captain!
Making sure our neighbors don’t fall through the cracks is one of the most important things we can do in this moment of crisis. Mutual Aid Medford And Somerville (MAMAS) is an amazing community that has sprung up in the midst of the COVID-19 crisis. We are helping them complete their coverage in our district, and providing extra support with outreach and organizing efforts.
We reached out to you because you live in a part of the district that does not have a neighborhood point person. You don’t have to work through MAMAS; if you prefer you can do your outreach using phone numbers we give you for people on your block. MAMAS does have a vibrant community so we encourage you to check them out. If you do decide to become a Neighborhood Point Person with MAMAS, please read the linked doc — it has all the instructions you need.
We will be providing phone numbers for you to call your neighbors in the next few days (we are still working on obtaining the right lists). Once we do, we’ll reach out to you personally with that info.
We will also have an optional weekly zoom call for all block captains so we can check in with each other.
This Wednesday we will have a live video broadcast featuring a Somerville City Councillor, a local doctor, and one of the core team from MAMAS. We’ll do this at least once a week with different guests, and viewers will be able to ask questions live.
One of the long-term goals of this weekly show is to make sure that everyone in the community hears about how this crisis is affecting their neighbors. As you hear from your neighbors, let us know if anyone you talk to would like their story featured on the show.
Thanks again, we’ll reach out soon with numbers for you, and in the meantime feel free to plug into MAMAS. And don’t hesitate to reach out at any time via email or phone.
